 A visionary and fortune-hunter Late Manik Lal Ghosh and his two brothers, established the company in 1918 as Ghosh & Company. At first it dealt in different kinds of imported O.P. seeds. Later in course of time the company included nursery items like ornamental plants and flowers, fruit seedlings etc. and got itself incorporated as Bharat Nursery Pvt. Ltd. During the 1990s, although nursery items were still there, the company's primary object, under the able stewardship of late Jyotirmoy Ghosh, shifted to production and marketing of seeds of their own as well as importing and marketing of seeds from reputed companies of Japan, Korea, Thailand, Holland, Denmark etc.

Presently Bharat Nursery Pvt. Ltd. is mainly engaged in production, import and export of vegetable seeds, although due stress is laid also on seasonal flower seeds and domestic marketing and export of Certified Jute seeds to Bangladesh. Of late, BNPL has gone into production of OP seeds of paddy. The increasing demand for it in the domestic market is quite encouraging. BNPL and its product-brand CHAKRA are now familiar names to people associated with agriculture here and abroad.
